Aston Martin to sell 100 units by next year end in India

Within a month of its entry into India, UK-based super premium luxury sports car maker, Aston Martin, is aiming to sell close to 100 units by next year end, after having delivered 20 units so far.

The niche luxury sports car brand today displayed Rapide , the bestseller so far in India, along with two other models-DBS and Vantage , so as to create awareness about various models.

"In first year of launch, we expect to sell 30 units and by the end of next year we aim to sell close to 100 cars in India," Performance Cars (division of Infinity Cars) Director Lalit Choudhary, official importers of Aston Martin cars in India, told newsmen here.

The company forayed into the Indian market with the opening of their showroom in Mumbai on April 15 last month. The cars are priced from between Rs 1.35 crore ex-showroom to a whopping Rs 20 crore.

"As people move up from the premium luxury range to super luxury car segment, the sales of cars priced above Rs 1.5 crore shall pick up, and Gujarat is increasingly becoming a good market for the luxury car segment," Choudhary said.

The British car manufacturer gained worldwide fame after secret agent James Bond drove the very same car in several Ian Fleming flicks.

"The ultra-exclusive One-77, the limited edition car priced in excess of Rs 20 crore ex-showroom, is now on display in Mumbai. The car maker is just left with 6-7 more units of this model and it can be made available in India," Choudhary said.

Aston Martin offers its entire range in India, except Cygnet, a small sports car launched recently.

"The import of completely build-up units (CBUs) from United Kingdom attracts a hefty 110 per cent import duty. It takes over four months to customise the car and takes some time to be delivered in India," he said.

The super premium car range from Aston Martin competes with sports models of brands like Ferrari, Bentley , Mercedes , Porsche and Maserati , a luxury sports car.

Aston Martin is arguably the most expensive car priced at around Rs 20 crore that has been launched on the Indian roads.
