Maruti to decide Gujarat plant location in 3 months

After Tata Nano's Sanand plant, Gujarat could be close to clinching another high-profile car manufacturing plant, as chief minister Narendra Modi continues his efforts to lure big-ticket investments into the state.
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. is reportedly contemplating setting up a greenfield plant in Gujarat. Senior officials of Maruti Suzuki held talks with the Chief Minister Modi Tuesday morning, according to reports.
The location for the proposed new manufacturing unit in Gujarat will be selected in three months, R.C. Bhargava, Chairman of Maruti Suzuki told reporters in Gandhinagar after the meeting.
''We are in the process of exploring the land for the unit. It will take about three months," Bhargava was quoted as saying.
The state government has promised to provide 500 acres to Maruti Suzuki, according to reports.
This would be Maruti's seventh manufacturing facility in India and first outside Haryana. Maruti has six manufacturing units at two locations in Haryana - Gurgaon and Manesar.
Maruti has apparently zeroed in on Sanand for setting up it's new manufacturing unit. Before Sanand, the company had also seen two other locations in Gujarat - Halol and Dholera.

Reports suggest that Maruti could locate its new plant in Gujarat right next to the Tata Nano factory at Sanand.
