Maruti suffers biggest sales fall in July

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. said on Monday that its total vehicle sales in July stood at 75,300 units versus 80,298 units sold in the previous month.
The company had sold 1 lakh units in the same month a year earlier.
While overall automobile market was sluggish, the Company’s domestic sales numbers in July 2011 were impacted also due to the following planned activities:

The manufacturing of Swift Dzire was shifted from Manesar to Gurgaon. During this planned changeover, production of Swift Dzire was temporarily affected. Therefore, the sales numbers for Swift Dzire in the month are 5,471 units lower than in July 2010.

Despatch of the old Swift was discontinued in July 2011. The new Swift, being manufactured in the Manesar Plant, will be launched nationally in mid-August 2011. As such, while the Company despatched 11,828 units of Swift in July 2010, the despatch in July 2011 was only 348 units.

Owing to these two planned activities, sales in July 2011 were negatively impacted by nearly 17,000 units compared to July 2010.
