Maruti Swift bookings stopped due to Manesar plant strike
India's No 1 car maker Maruti Suzuki, is still coping with increasing demand, following the standoff with workers at Manesar, which forced it to stop bookings for its best selling premium compact Swift, which have breached the 90,000-mark in a fortnight since launch.
According to reports, the Manesar plant in the previous week rolled out only 500 Swifts against an expectation of some 8,400 cars.
Dealers across the country have closed fresh bookings for the vehicle as they feel the slowdown in production could result in delivery periods stretching up to eight months, or even more for select variants, reports stated.
"Despite the intense curiosity for the new Swift and the car surpassing consumer expectations, we cannot take any more bookings. Deliveries in the current bank of bookings will go on till next April and even beyond," reports quoted a Delhi-based Maruti dealer as saying.
