Maruti Swift output reaches 500 units a day

Swift, the best selling car of Maruti Suzuki has reportedly reached 500 units even as striking workers sought the intervention of the district administration to resolve the 14-day standoff.

According to reports, Maruti plans to increase Swift's production to around 18,000 units a month to help meet the delivery schedule for the 90,000 bookings for the popular car. The company have also recruited 50 more ITI-trained workers at the plant, taking the total strength of available workers to over 1,100. This will help the company to bring down its dependence on permanent workers.

Shiv Kumar, general secretary of Maruti Suzuki Employees' Union was quoted as saying "We met the additional deputy commissioner and apprised him of the situation at the plant and submitted our demand to scrap any illegal administrative orders. We are willing to work but will not sign the good conduct bond."
